In Pattern, Price and Time: Using Gann Theory in Technical Analysis , Hyerczyk examines, in complete detail, such essentials as swing charts and trend indicators, percentage retracements, Gann angles, and cycle dates. With fresh information about how to use price scales when charting forex, equity, and ETF markets, as well as discussions on how to calculate Gann angles for each market, this Second Edition of Pattern, Price and Time is a must-read for anyone looking to thoroughly understand–and successfully implement–one of the most important and powerful trading methods in existence.
Author’s Note:
After a brief introduction as to why I choose to write about pattern, price, and time, I introduce W. D. Gann and his theory. I follow this up with information on the importance of having correct data and charts. This is followed by descriptions of the key elements of technical analysis: pattern, price, and time. In the pattern chapters, I discuss trend indicators and chart formations. In the price chapters, percentage retracements and Gann angles are detailed, followed by a chapter on combining pattern and price. Finally, concepts of time analysis finish the core analysis techniques. The last chapter demonstrates the effects of combining pattern, price, and time into an analysis and trading tool.
After the last book was published, I received criticism that I was holding back on Gann’s secrets. This could not be further from the truth. I stated in the book that teaching financial astrology was beyond the scope of this book and could take years to learn and apply. I stated it was not my intention to write or teach financial astrology. I can say that if you understand the basics of this book then learn financial astrology, you will have an edge over those who only know astrology because, after all, astrology is a time indicator.
Remember that although Gann said that time was most important in identifying changes in trend, price and time and money management are just as important when trading. In order to appease those who feel I am keeping secrets, I will publish a few surprises in this book that will point those who want to study the metaphysical elements of Gann analysis in the right direction.
In conclusion, this book is intended to be educational and informative. It is by no means intended to replace the books and courses written by W. D. Gann. At times the book may seem repetitive, especially in the chapters about the trend indicator. This is done intentionally because I wanted to emphasize, just as Gann did in his books, that the analyst must study, experiment, and practice these techniques over and over. If anything, this book should be used by the novice as an introduction to the subjects of pattern, price, and time. It should be required reading before computerized analysis is attempted. It is very important to learn how pattern, price, and time techniques work before using computerized trading indicators.
This book will provide a good base for the analyst who wants to use more sophisticated technical analysis techniques. The expert trader could also use this book to enhance his or her analysis or trading abilities. While Gann analysis concepts are discussed in this book, it is not intended to be a book solely on Gann analysis as many original ideas and techniques are introduced throughout the text. Gann, for example, left no record on how to trade stock indices, Treasury bonds, or Forex markets. Although at times limited by page size in this book, I believe pattern, price, and time analysis is presented in a detailed but clear manner. I hope that you find the ideas in the book as useful as I have.

Pattern, Price and Time: Using Gann Theory in Technical Analysis By James A. Hyerczyk pdf

The book is really informative and easy to understand. But some of the charts are quite hard to read as it is quite small, that’s all.
Athena Vazquez (verified owner) –
A good introduction to Gann’s methods from a practical point if view.
Cynthia Love (verified owner) –
The book does not give any proper information. The content is too ambiguous and not easy to understand. Overpriced

Pattern Price and Time is an excellent book to learn the fundamentals of Gann theory. No you will not learn the Square of 9 or 4, or all about the planetary vibratory aspects of Gann Theory. However, you will take in a plethora of knowledge about Gann Angles, Timing counts, Seasonality, Swing Analysis, Trend Indicator, and forecasting using both price and time. I’ve read the reviews here and believe that this book is WAY underrated. Being an active DAILY TRADER myself in the Forex market, I can tell you there is substantial meat in the order management skills presented in the text involving price and time. Most traders FAIL due to not knowing when to close a trade or holding losing trades… aka not knowing when to take a profit or taking too much risk. James covers how to deal with both of these areas using Gann Analysis to gauge risk and manage the trade from entry to exit. I have a pile of trading books that maybe 10-20 pages were worth the money spent, but this is not one of those books. The author makes no claim to teach the advanced Gann methods, and having studied those myself I would be beside myself not to mention that Michael S Jenkins, Patrick Mikula, and PN Reda are NOT the best starting places for Gann Theory for the amateur trader. This book gives the a solid foundation by staying practical, while developing the necessary concepts to successfully execute a trading system.

Good book to cover basics of GANN Theory in a detailed manner. It will set you up for how GANN principles can be used in trading. Don’t expect too highly however, as it does not detail trading systems or customized ways in which GANN can be used.

If you want to learn about Gann methods, this book is the place to start. Jim Hyerczyk has produced a no-nonsense primer that should be on every student’s shelf. Plus, the book addresses the practical challenge of putting the methods to work.

A thorough, comprehensive book, painstakingly researched, extensive in documentation, and meticulous in detail. A precise narrative of the trading strategies of an extraordinary forecaster of more than market movements.
Ira Taylor (verified owner) –
A good guide to applying the basics of Gann theory

Don’t buy this book. Felt like I was in the 70’s two thumbs down
Raven Hampton (verified owner) –
On the one hand, there are some trivial points explained in excruciating details several times over, yet on the other hand the explanation of the truly unique and interesting features of Gann’s method is absolutely incomprehensible.
