About the Author

Kathy Lien graduated from New York University’s Stern School of Business and began her career on Wall Street at age 18, with a specific focus on currencies. She first worked at JPMorgan Chase, making markets on the interbank foreign exchange (FX) trading desk. Later she joined JPMorgan’s cross-markets proprietary trading group, where she traded FX spot, options, interest rate derivatives, bonds, equities, and futures. In 2003, Kathy joined FXCM and started DailyFX.com, a leading online foreign-exchange research portal. As chief strategist, Kathy managed a team of analysts dedicated to providing research and commentary on the foreign-exchange market. In 2008, Kathy joined Global Futures & Forex Ltd as director of currency research, where she provided research and analysis to clients and managed a global foreign-exchange analysis team.

Currently, Kathy serves as managing director of FX strategy at BK Asset Management in New York City. At BKForex LLC, a firm that she co-founded in 2007, Kathy’s extensive experience in developing trading strategies using cross-markets analysis and her years of market research in predicting economic data surprises serve as key components of BKForex’s analytical techniques. An expert in global currencies, Kathy is often quoted in The Wall Street Journal, Reuters, Bloomberg, Marketwatch, Associated Press, and other leading news publications. She also appears regularly on CNBC and Sky Business. Kathy is an internationally published author of books about trading, including the bestselling Day Trading and Swing Trading the Currency Market (Wiley).

Education

Kathy received a BS degree in finance and economics from New York University’s Stern School of Business; prior to which she attended Mary Baldwin University in Staunton, Va., for one year.
