Hedge Fund Masters, is a continuation of and elaboration on these concepts and a further exploration of the parameters of high performance, including those in relation to leadership and the empowerment of others. It delves into the creation of a masterful culture where high standards of excellence, the measurement of performance, and the capacity for transforming yourself and those around you become a critical part of the conversation.
Author’s Introduction:
I hope this book will help you to learn the principles used by master traders so you can achieve your goals and access the unique genius that lies within you. You will discover how to:
- Maintain a balance between too little and too much emotion
- Concentrate your energy, attention, and drive on specific targets and actions
- Find the right amount of intensity and effort so you don’t burn out or lose your motivation
- Psyche yourself up
- Let go of the controls and allow your intuitive processes to function automatically
In addition, this book will help you to develop faith and trust in an image of a positive outcome. Success in life, as in trading, requires the ability to let go of inhibitions about winning and losing. In fact, the ability to overcome various learned inhibitions is one of the major characteristics differentiating successful traders from mediocre ones. Because an “empty mind” produces the best performance, it is my desire to help you to learn how to relinquish all thoughts of winning and losing and to learn how to reduce anxiety.
I want to show you how to control or to eliminate the depressive response to performing poorly, which can seriously impair energy, drive, motivation, and the capacity to concentrate under stress. I’ll also suggest a variety of psychological exercises to maintain motivation, concentration, endurance, and performance under stressful circumstances. By learning how to create mental images of success, you will be able to overcome any fears of success or inhibition about letting out all the stops. Equally important, you will learn how to adopt this attitude in a relaxed way so that the goal does not become an obsession. You will learn a series of tasks through which you can achieve all the necessary components of the skill required in a particular activity and thus accomplish all that you set out to do.

I began to reread Hedge Fund Masters as soon as I finished it.
Although it sounds simple, Dr. Kiev elegantly demonstrates how an undistracted pursuit of one’s goals is a prerequisite for success.

As a professional trader, I found Doctor Kiev’s book of great value. Investing is a discipline and Doctor Kiev is helping me deal the emotions of greed and fear of being wrong. Helping me be an objective trader is worth many times the cost of the book.

This book is perfect for any professional portfolio manager, trader, and buy-side research analyst. It articulates a strategy, and more importantly, a mind set that will improve decision making with added confidence. Dr. Kiev uses real world case studies of PMs and traders overcoming psychological barriers and successfully implementing his strategies. I highly recommend this book.

As someone with little knowledge on this subject, Dr. Kiev’s latest book provided me with powerful insight into understanding hedge funds and the masterminds behind them. He steers the reader in the right direction that can only enable one to gain inner perspective and discover how they themselves can be successful not only in this field, but in life.

Dr. Kiev’s book gives even the professional trader insights in how to perform at the top of their game. He shows how to push for superior results and rid yourself of old habits that limit your potential. Most investing books focus on how to analyze a stock, Dr. Kiev shows you how to analyze your behavior and suggests ways to start to change that behavior to drive stronger results.

Hedge Fund Masters is a great book. It helped me a lot in my forex trading.
It has you setting goals, formulating a vision, enhancing your process, and other great ideas to make you a success.

Hedge Fund Masters continues Kiev’s masterful exploration of the emotional and psychological challenges facing investors. It is trailblazing in its application of the principles of mastery to topics such as leadership, empowerment of a team and establishment of a masterful culture. Substitute ‘business’ for ‘investing’ and ‘managing’ for ‘trading’ and the clearly spelled out lessons within Hedge Fund Masters are invaluable for business managers and investors alike.

I found Hedge Fund Masters to be a highly engaging and thorough account of the hedge fund industry writ large. You will learn important insights into the industry, its leaders and best practices that you simply wont find anywhere else. The book is a fast read and Kiev has done a superb job shedding light on what has been an opaque and highly secretive area of the business world. A must read for anyone involved – or looking to become involved – in the hedge fund industry.

Rather than the multitude of recent hedge fund books where the narrator`s main goal is self-aggrandizing, Dr. Kiev’s latest effort gives a deep look into sculpting the mind to become a successful trader and investor. His experience with some of the best traders and portfolio managers of this decade provides this book with rare insight into a new generation of investing success. This book definitely can provide a tailwind to one’s investment style, as it provides steps to better understand and improve oneself as an investor.

The psychological dimension of investing is one of the most important yet least discussed. Dr. Ari Kiev has filled that gap! He does a great job and I now understand why he is the pre-eminent trading coach. Hedge Fund Masters both inspires you to achieve break-through performance and provides the specific tools to do so. I found it particularly valuable that he combines his conceptual framework with actual interviews of top traders that are applying it daily. I am a Managing Director and Portfolio Manager at a large hedge fund and have referenced this book more than any other so far this year. I highly recommend this great read if you are serious about investment mastery.

In the last several years, there have been dozens of books written on the topic of Hedge Fund investing, styles and personalities. Unfortunately, most of them are terrible and they suffer from the classic problem of adverse selection: the authors wouldn’t write them if they, indeed, were successful themselves. Dr. Kiev, on the other hand, has consulted and trained some of the most successful traders and investors in the world – the most notable being Steven A. Cohen.
This book is easily one of the best books out there for understanding your pyschological tendencies, weaknesses and strengths as well as learning what it takes to become “world-class.” Dr. Kiev is inspirational, and reading this book will force you to re-evaluate the way in which you operate and behave on a daily basis. Additionally, I found the lessons and teachings in this book to be applicable to all areas of life where performance and achievement matter.

Almost every professional trader I have met knows how to visualize events in advance, and prepares to respond. What separates the typical from the master trader is the next step–the degree to which that trader responds to change.
Anyone who is willing to make the effort to improve their trading style will do well to read Dr. Ari Kiev’s latest book. The path he lays out with such clarity is the product of years of experience, and the foundation is to learn to trust
your ability in the market. The prerequisite of such self-confidence is to take responsibility for your tranding and your life, which is difficult to manifest. The gift of this book is its interviews with traders who work in close proximity to master traders, and Dr. Kiev meticulously diagrams these
conversations to illustrate the challenges facing those who are constantly trying to improve. One must first break behavioral patterns to get to the next level, and this book is an invaluable tool toward that goal.

I had expected something of the genre and quality of Market Wizards I & II, Trading for a living, Trade like a Hedge Fund (by James Altucher), Soros on Soros, Reminiscences of a stock operator, Running Money by Andy Kessler etc etc. I had been confoundedly disappointed. The book is flooded of interviews with hedge fund managers anonymous leading you to nowhere but setting goals, visualizing success, overcoming fears and all the stuff you find in any trading psychology book, only that the writing skill of the author is sub-standard. The author had repeated the term “Hedge Fund” highly frequently. However, the content is not related particularly to any hedge fund or hedge fund manager at all. Also, the author had elaborated the term “mastery” throughout the book. I assure you that you will have no idea of how to achieve it unless you employ the author as your personal trading counsellor.
In short, a waste of time and money.

Well, this is a good book, it helped me to match a different perspective on trading and to gain more confidense. There is no need in fretting out on loses or relying purely on anlisys.
Judson Cuevas (verified owner) –
Very powerful book. It is unsettling and driving and the same time as it discuss psychology points that keep most of us comfortable but limited. It shows how to break through these limits through self examination and commitment. Reading this book made me a better trader and a better man. Highly recommended.

I really enjoyed the psychological aspect of this trading book. I’m not a fan of the “interview” process and recording the conversations with unknown people but Ari Kiev’s coaching and reflection is pure gold. A great book for intermediate and advanced traders.

Don’t be dissuaded by the title if you are not a hedge fund manager. This book is the real deal for EVERY trader. If you’ve worked long and hard to put in your blood, sweat, and tears into learning a trading method, then you know the psych aspect of trading is the last crucial piece in the puzzle—to becoming a successful trader. I don’t think anyone understands the delicate nuances needed to understand, battle and overcome the mental aspects of the trading game—better than Ari Kiev. This is money well spent, and probably the cheapest trader education you will spend that is actually the real deal. It’s a game changer!
