Mr. Roberts’ book provides a very simple, yet effective investment strategy for the amateur investor like me. I found the history of the Fed to be very interesting as well. For those who want to follow this investment approach, I would strongly recommend using the easy template found on the website mentioned in the book.

I thought the book was extremely informative especially from a historical perspective and provided an interesting strategy to manage your wealth. Doug Roberts is very knowledgeable and writes in an easy to understand way information that is quite complex and can be difficult to comprehend. This book is an easy read and I recommend it without reservation

Finally, someone designed a strategy not based on the financial hysteria of the moment, subjective attributions, or (intentionally?) indecipherable jargon. Instead, “Follow the Fed to Investment Success” simply explains, using standard economic metrics, interest rate trends of the Federal Reserve. Based on these rates, investors can follow (rather than try to predict) how to rationally invest our hard-earned cash.
I’d recommend this book for amateurs and experts alike; Mr. Roberts has shown that we all stand to learn a lesson or two!

I’ve been hearing about the Federal Reserve constantly these days, and always knew that what it did was of consequence to me and my investments. I bought this book hoping that it would clue me in on how and why the Fed was formed, and what its role is in the world economy. I got that lesson in an easy to read and understand form, but I got something more. Follow the Fed makes a great case for using Fed actions to dictate your investments. I have already used the formulas in the book with part of my portfolio, and will add to that over time. This book is a great read even if you buy it just for the history lesson, but the investment advice will open your eyes.

While I found the book presented an interesting and plausible investment idea, I was disappointed to discover that, in my own opinion, the book is simply designed as a “vehicle” to drive traffic to the author’s commercial web site. With strong encouragement at the end of each chapter to visit the web site I can’t see how anyone would not arrive at a similar conclusion. My opinion is that the goal of selling you the book is to hopefully provide you with just enough interest in the concept presented to sell you a subscription to the author’s commercial advising service… just my opinion. I was disappointed that I spent my money purchasing what I consider to be an advertisement for the web site!!

The author argues that there are small and mid-sized companies that are affected very much by the Federal Reserve Bank’s decisions pertaining to the availability of money and credit. While larger companies are not affected as much, these smaller companies rely on credit availability more while operating their businesses. Therefore, investors can profit handsomely by investing in these companies while following the Fed’s decisions.
The author takes the readers through a journey of how he developed his unique investment philosophy. He used to have his money invested in Berkshire Hathaway, which is run by Warren Buffett. But in the 1990s, value investing was extremely hard to practice due to the overpriced stock market. I would recommend this book to readers looking to think outside of the box.

The strategy this book suggests is moving all your assets into large or small cap stocks based on what the fed is doing with interest rates.. The results for the basic strategy were not much if at all better than a simple allocation strategy (but far more trades which would quickly make up the difference in trading costs & taxes). I think the real purpose of the book is to entice you into signing up for his 295/yr “proprietary” Follow the Fed strategy which he says increases yearly returns 3% above the basic method taught in the book.. I signed up for his free email subscription out of curiosity which sends you an email almost every day again in trying to get you to try the fee based strategys.. So I guess in summary, there is no secret to long term investing, save your $$ and stick to a nicely diversified portfolio which will reward you much better over the long run.

Very knowledgeable writer, give entire history of the market from the beginning of investment. This book gave me confidence to invest because now I don’t feel I missed anything or locking the knowledge other have about investing. Buy the book!

A relatively brief book that skimmed over many subjects. But the strategy is clearly laid out, and offers good backup evidence of its usefulness. Very helpful for folks who want to integrate “macro” thinking into developing their investment plan.
