Commodity Strategies presents a disciplined, rules-based framework for trading and investing in commodity markets with clarity and consistency. Thomas J. Dorsey applies objective technical logic—best known from his Point & Figure work—to the unique dynamics of commodities, where trends can be powerful, cycles matter, and risk management is non-negotiable. Rather than forecasting macro narratives, the book teaches readers how to respond to price behavior and relative strength as they unfold.
Dorsey explains how commodities differ from equities in structure and behavior, emphasizing trend persistence, rotation, and the influence of supply-demand imbalances. The methodology centers on objective signals, clear entry and exit logic, and position management designed to keep traders aligned with dominant moves while avoiding emotional overreach. By focusing on what price is doing—rather than why—it promotes decisiveness and discipline.
A key contribution of the book is its practical approach to strategy selection across commodity sectors. Readers learn how to identify favorable market environments, evaluate relative performance, and apply techniques that suit trending, ranging, or rotational conditions. The framework is adaptable across futures and related instruments, enabling consistent decision-making across energy, metals, and agricultural markets.
Throughout, the emphasis remains on capital preservation and process. Trades are structured with predefined risk, signals are binary and actionable, and outcomes are evaluated probabilistically. Commodity Strategies is not about short-term excitement; it is about building a durable approach to commodities that can be applied across cycles with confidence and control.

I had questioned myself many times before I started writing this review because I had not finished reading it yet, and I wont, for sure. The existence of this review simply means that my intention to warn you potential buyers of its overwhelming elaboration of Point and Figure Charts (and no other TA tool at all) won over any other consideration of being a prudent trader/reviewer. Some may argue that a single tool can already be very helpful if one uses it right. I doubt so. In fact, the authors did not teach how to identify those false breaks which are so prevalent nowadays. No matter what, if you want to read the most detailed elaboration on Point and Figure, please go ahead. If not, please give this a pass.

I have read many books on Point & Figure charting, but this is the first in its category―on the application of the time-tested methodology of Point & Figure charting, in particular, the concept of ‘relative strength,’ to pick outperforming commodities as well as to achieve diversification of non-correlated assets. If you are looking for a profitable and comprehensive methodology to making money from the commodity and currency markets and ETFs, look no further―you have found it. This book has it all.
