Gold Trading Boot Camp is a structured, macro-driven guide to understanding and trading gold within the broader framework of commodities markets, global economics, and capital flows. Gregory T. Weldon approaches gold not as an isolated asset, but as a reflection of monetary policy, inflation dynamics, currency movements, and investor sentiment, making this book both a trading guide and a macro education.

The book begins by building foundational knowledge—how gold markets function, the role of futures and derivatives, and the mechanics of commodities trading. It then expands into the macro forces that drive gold prices, including interest rates, central bank policies, inflation expectations, and currency trends, particularly the U.S. dollar. Weldon emphasizes that understanding these drivers is essential for positioning in gold markets.

A key strength of this work is its integration of macro analysis with practical trading application. Readers learn how to interpret economic signals, align them with market structure, and translate them into actionable trading or investment decisions. The book also covers timing considerations, risk awareness, and the realities of volatility in commodities trading.

Rather than offering simplistic buy/sell rules, Weldon provides a framework for thinking about gold as part of a global financial system, making it especially valuable for traders who want to combine macro insight with disciplined execution.

Greg’s book is one of the best books I have ever read on the complex subject of commodity investing. I both learned a great deal, and was highly entertained. I agressively recommend this book if you want to become a better investor in any asset class.

I was very disappointed reading this book.
The use of the word bootcamp is misleading. The author throws on you a bunch of trivia style information but fails to arrange it in a textbook like manner. It sounds more like a memoire than a how to book.

There is also a tendenccy, to create fillers as technical trading how to, commitment of traders report and so on.

    Two thumbs down!

This is an excellent book…Well written and very informative. I would definately recomend the book to anyone who is looking to sharpen their investing strategies. I feel the exceptional writing of Weldon helps make this complicated information, understandable and quite enjoyable to learn about. Great book!

I am a beginner in gold investing, and found this book an eye-opener in understanding the markets. I need everything in simple terms, and this book was incredibly informative.

Greg Weldon is an eloquent writer, and I felt that I came away with more confidence to invest in this market.

A lot of people don’t know anything about precious metals investing and tranding. I know, since I work at Capital Gold Group, and everyday I have to educate clients about the basics of commodities investment. I wish I could give everyone who walks intot he office a copy of this book. It is easy to understand, clear, and factual. It has everything you need to know to become your own gold, capital and precious metals investor.

I highly recommend this book. Not only to Gold traders, but to anyone who follows the financial markets in general. As a subscriber to his thought-provoking newsletter, I believe Weldon has a style all his own that is reflected in this book. (Most of which in this industry make for good “night-time” reading!)

Weldon’s book kept me engaged while also providing useful information and insights that can be applied to many different markets. He is very good at illustrating his points with charts and graphs (many of which are of his own creation) and has a unique way of correlating many different markets, indicators and statistics.

    Very well written.

Finally! This is the first book I’ve read on trading that wasn’t either a hundred old war stories or dry scholarly prose. Weldon weaves together what he looks at with why, and then how to use this information for trading. It’s detailed and sophisticated but also entertaining and easy to digest. If you invest in commodities and are looking for an edge, I’d consider this book to be well worth your time.

Excellent book! Greg captures the emotion and opportunity that clearly exists in the trading of commodities, while providing one man’s detailed odyssey towards mastering the subject. The writing style is easy to read and describes an evolution from his early days on the exchange floor into today’s keenly focused proprietary trader.

Greg expertly outlines the macro-fundamentals of gold and clearly details some of his more memorable individual trades.

The first half of the book should appeal to everyone, as it illustrates the sometimes comical events that the author experienced while developing and tweaking his trading style. The second half of the book provides in-depth and explicit details on his trading systems and proprietary analysis.

I look forward to his second book – great job, Greg!

While the main focus of this book may be about gold and commodities, Weldon also provides readers with a great introduction into how a true “macro-style” trader considers an extremely wide array of different markets and economic factors in order to establish a tradable opinion. Although you may not at first be familiar with a lot of the ideas presented in this book, you will soon learn how important it is to move beyond the world of stocks (which receive the bulk of financial media coverage these days) in order to identify what non-equity factors truly drive the commodity and financial markets. It’s also worth noting that this is NOT a dry academic treatise but rather a very animated exploration of the world’s trading markets by someone who clearly loves to study and trade them every day. Consider yourself lucky if some of Weldon’s enthusiasm rubs off on you.

Weldon is a highly regarded market watcher who, unlike so many others, actually puts his money where is mouth is. To me, this elevates his credibilty above those who don’t really have “skin in the game”, making this book that much more interesting and compelling to read.

I was interested to get an insider’s view as to how he thinks and what techniques he brings to bear when he trades a market. I found that this book clearly lays out the macro-economic relationships that he puts into forming an opinion about a market – and it demonstrates that we are likely still in the beginning phases of what is going to be a multi-decade and significant bull market in gold. From this perspective the relevevance of the book is quite pressing. For the longterm investor, his fundamental view mandates an allocataion to gold in their portfolio.

Additionally, Weldon’s discussion of the philosophy of technical analysis and demonstrations of his preferred methodologies provide timing and risk mangement guidelines for those who are more active traders.

Weldon shares a great deal of himself and his trading secrets in this book, and while the focus here is on gold, many of the lessons within can be applied to other markets. Truly a great read – and a must read for those who want to learn more about gold as well as the art trading.

I feel ripped off by all the good reviews of this book. It was worthless to me and it is the second book in my life which I have torn in half after spending about 2-3hrs trying to find something interesting in it, and failing completely. And I have read a book a fortnight for about the last 30years (I’m 50). The author just conveys page after page of his daily routine of hyperactive searching through countless markets. The writing is annoyingly bad. It is a travesty. Wiley should hang there heads in shame publishing this thing.

Wilson Lopez (verified owner) – June 12, 2026

The weakness of this book stems from Weldon’s advocacy of a purely intuitive approach. Wake up at four a.m., review dozens of charts for fundamentals and technicals, read all the headlines, run some technical indicators, look for some hidden correlations and then start trading. But the book never presents a coherent strategy. Should you trade on the MACD or on weakness in soft commodities? Base actions and stops on the bond markets or the latest headlines? Weldon never makes clear any basis for trades save pseudo-Hermetic platitudes about finding the universe of actionable stock data in a grain of tar sand futures. Beginners would do well to pick up something like the Encyclopedia of Trading Strategies and learn a system before opening up into Weldon’s high-data intuitive approach.

This book combines personal reminiscences, economic analyses and trading know-how. Gregory T. Weldon tries with some success to balance these three important elements, but readers are likely to be most interested in his trading advice. To convey it in detail, the book relies heavily on charts. One appears on almost every page, along with commentary and an explanation of why it is relevant to trading. This approach has its strengths, particularly in conveying information about trends and statistics, but as time passes, the utility of the charts may dim. Weldon could have softened this impact by providing instructions to readers on how to extrapolate more timely charts. He could also have proofread more painstakingly, as minor errors undermine his authority, but the depth of his knowledge shines through. getAbstract recommends this ambitious book to visual learners who aspire to trade in gold.

I purchased this book expecting to find excellent information specific to trading gold futures and came up empty! The book is an informercial written in haste with little regard to sound scholarship and research. The goal is to have as many chapters as possible full of canned information easily obtained from other books that treat this subject with seriousness. Any would be buyer should stay away from this book. I regret buying it!!

The author is a scam artist. He wrote the book not to teach you how to profit from gold. He wrote it for self aggrandizement. The book was written to drive up the gold buying sentiment because he had a large holding of gold. Investment advisers often advise their rich clients to buy certain investments so to increase the open interest to drive the price up. He wants his rich readers to subscribe to his news letter Weldon Monitor for gold, currencies, etc. In essence, the book is a big advertisement of his company resume.

Dissapointed that I did not undercover anything ‘new’ or earth shattering. It is a decent intro book but I did not learn anything special.

Weldon’s boot camp is an in depth and intensive guide about how to become a great commodities trader. Weldon starts by providing the reader with a brief history about how he began his journey as a trader and then he gives a very detailed look into how he analyzes markets and makes trading decisions.

I enjoyed reading about how Weldon conducts his top-down analysis starting from a very broad cross continental macro-fundamental stand point to his customized technical analysis. My biggest take away from this book is that is imperative to have as broad of an overview as possible. I now plan to incorporate multi-chart analysis and look for more detailed information behind the noise of high impact fundamental news.
