Description

Your Options Handbook: The Practical Reference and Strategy Guide to Trading Options offers a straightforward, practical explanation of the options marketplace, including its origins, the mechanics of the market, and how to profit from trading options.

Author’s Introduction:

In Your Options Handbook, I offer you the indicators, methods, and data that I examine and use. I’ll explain what I look for in them as well as the technique I use to find stocks to trade, and finally teach you the options strategies I use to trade them in simplified, specific, and practical detail.

Much of these methods are interpretations and combinations of all my mentors’ teachings and my own personal experiences over the years. There is no perfect system and every person rationalizes data, situations, risk, and problems differently. My goal is to level the peaks and valleys, styles, and formats, and offer a real options trader’s handbook, which I hope can make you some extra money, save you from losing more money than you would have, or just offer some cool insight to our little world of derivatives.

In this book are the most of the tools and knowledge that you must know to become a consistent, successful trader or to start your own trading business. My approach is not perfect, but the methods and suggestions that you find in this book not only have worked for me in the past, they enabled me to make my living as a trader, both on and off the floor. I can’t promise that everyone who picks up this book will walk away an expert options trader, but what I can promise is that you will get your money’s worth. I left behind $70,000 to my first trading partners because they taught me the craft—that was my options training tuition.

I think the cost of this book is a much better deal! But in all sincerity, teaching, along with trading, are my passions and this book is packed with tips, suggestions, and tricks of the trade from a professional market maker’s perspective, I know that some of the data contained within this book will help you become a better trader, at least on some level.

Very comprehensive and well written by an experienced trader.

  2. Kamden Stein (verified owner)

Easy to understand. Author clearly explains basic strategies however not much explanation regarding option adjustments when you are in the wrong side which I feel necessary but still a good recommended read for options beginners.

  3. Chandler Bennett (verified owner)

Jared’s teaching is like no other style, nothing held back, I actually paid to learn from Jared via SMB Vertical Spread course, then bought both his books, you will learn the strategies that make money and learn what actually happens to options and why most don’t make money with them. This has helped me further understand the course material and some other important areas not covered in the course.

Great book. I learned a lot.

  7. Brandon Abbott (verified owner)

Good Reference Book. I am still studying it. Good investment.

  8. Baylee Lowe (verified owner)

    Not useful.

  9. Raelyn Hanna (verified owner)

This book presents all the basics of stock options trading in one book. Reading it to get the fundamentals and then using it as a reference book is an excellent beginning to becoming an effective stock option trader.

  10. Keira Lowery (verified owner)

The author didn’t give anything that I just couldn’t wait to try. Rambles quite a bit. Pricey for an e-book. I’ll read it again and see if my mind changes.

  11. Melvin Morgan (verified owner)

This book is one of the most poorly written books I have read on trading. It is boring, repetitious, and loaded with typos and errors. The authors obviously were trying to make a buck on this, since much of the book was cut and pasted from previous pages for filler and was not even edited for slight differences. There are other books that offer more valuable insight into how to trade options.

  12. Aydin Kerr (verified owner)

This book is very detailed and touches all of the standard bases, but don’t try to make your living from it. It won’t tell you how to trade successfully. Kind of like an encyclopedia.

  13. Manuel Farrell (verified owner)

Great Book to learn about the stock market, especially option trading.

  14. Josephine Collins (verified owner)

My broker advised I get this book, and since he is right about so many other things, I figured he was right about this. He was.

  15. Lennox Kane (verified owner)

I’m only halfway through, so this can’t be a final review. I’m very happy with new things I’ve been learning so far.

Nothing special. Just like most basic intro to options books out there. Desperately needs more detail in how to trade as a business. If not including biz details, why not recommend websites or other books that do?? Improvements could be made with strategy specifics and showing trades that help make money or monthly income. Just a suggestion for improvements.

This guy stopped publishing his newsletter and became a regular talking-head on FOX…which is great for him; I suppose, but, as far as his book? It is cheap; incomplete and somewhat thoughtless. I am not certain what his ideas were for writing this…perhaps riding his track record. I hope he is as successful as he was hoping to become, but this book is not what I expected! I’m going to write a better book thanks to this book. A book I wish “this” book would have been….someday!

I like this book. I’ve read a number of options books that go into a lot of detail without really providing a lot of information and in my opinion this book does provide good, relevant info. For example, the author provides information concerning the specifics of what he looks for in particular trades and then gives examples of making those trades. He breaks the book down into basics that are easy to understand, then moves progressively into what he looks for before entering a trade. He covers market news/data then moves into fundamental and technical analysis, then into option techniques and strategies, and then gets into option trades. From there he moves into the basic option trades (puts/calls/spreads) and then moves into more advanced techniques. Throughout the book he provides “trader tips” that are small summaries or tips that enhance the areas just covered. He devotes more of the book to the basics than the advanced techniques so I would recommend it for the less advanced trader who is looking to get into options trading. My advice for the new trader though would be to walk before you run. Study the book and become totally familiar with the concepts before trading with real money. All in all I have enjoyed the book.

I absolutely love this book! As the title emplies, it is my go-to book for options trading…something every options trader should keep on hand. It is written clearly and does a great job of explaining just about everything. Very happy to have this in my trading library!

It does not add anything new to other books out there. Provides a superficial view on trading, using fairly well known indicators but without providing any real strategy and – crucially – trading results based on the strategies presented. FORMER MARKET MAKERS ARE NOT THE SAME AS RETAIL INVESTORS. The skill sets are different and not everyone transitions well.

An excellent book on equity option mechanics and how to use them for trading. Examples and tips are provided for all the option strategies provided. I especially like how the author’s ability to present advance option strategies such as butterflies and iron condor simply and easy to remember. I have read many books on option trading and this is by far the best. I would recommend this book to a beginner or prospective option trader who aspire to know and understand option trading. Note: This is my first feedback for a book I bought on Sacred Traders even though I had bought many books here. This book is so good that I feel obliged to give back to the author by providing my review here.

  22. Tomas Holland (verified owner)

I have read several trading books, particularly another on options, and this is the best. I love his philosophy for the new trader. He is successful in his own trading techniques, and he also is realistic in his approach to teaching options to the person who is new at trading options. He encourages risk management. My friend who makes a living trading highly recommended this book, and though I am only half way through, I am finding it excellent, well written, and a superb instruction book for the beginning trader.

Bought this book after reading the reviews on many others. The author has been a floor trader and stock trader for many years. His writing style is easy to read with bullet lists covering all aspects of each type of trade including risk and reward. He goes into great detail on the Greeks and their ramifications which have always been a mystery to me. He uses real stock examples.

The only reason I gave this 4 stars is because some of the graphs are either very small or too fuzzy to read. I believe that would be more of a publishing issue, but you may be affected by it.

I was tempted to buy Larry MacMillan’s latest book, but the reviews indicated it had 1,000 pages. This one is significantly less with only 400. Sometimes lengthy books are just overly verbose and I personally don’t have time to read 1,000 pages.

Fast Forward 2 weeks: I finished the book and I am still happy with it. I really like the chapters in the back of the book which cover 1)Turning your Trading into a Business and 2)Psychological Capital(emotions). I plan to sit down and update my Stock Trading Selection Guide with this new psych information. Since this Guide has a section for evaluation on exiting the trade, I can use the psych info to evaluate whether my emotions are getting me out of a trade too early or keeping me in it too long.

My book now has sticky colored flags on the pages to help me quickly find the spreads I plan on using regularly. I can also see the risks/rewards that can be achieved if I need to repair one type of spread (say a Bull Put Spread) and changing it to another (i.e. butterfly, iron butterfly, condor, or iron condor).

Good material, but not well organized for a person unfamiliar with options.

First there is a long (very good) section on history of options, markets, indicators, and analysis. This is good material but no explanation of the mechanisms of options. Some of it is hard to understand if you don’t already know the mechanics and terminology of options.

The explanation of greeks comes before you really have a sound basis of understanding of how options actually work.

In other words, it is written from the point of view of an expert options trader with great advice to offer but who has not taken into account the knowledge level or lack of sophistication of his audience. For example, if you are not completely conversant in the terminology around buying puts and calls, vs selling puts and calls then you definitely won’t understand when he starts using the “short” and “long” lingo early in the book.

Not quite as bad as Finnigan’s Wake, but you probably have to read the book two or three times if this is the only options book you have.

At the same time, all the material is good, and the book is worth having.

I recommend you get a different starter book. My brokerage account has quite a bit of training material and recorded seminars, and that helped me a lot, but I hate it because watching videos is too time consuming. I am still searching for that starter book.

This one will probably be a go-to book for me eventually, but at the moment, much of it is over my head.

This book is very well written. Often times I find myself opening all kinds of financial literature, browse through some of the explanations and without hesitation it is back on the sale shelf.

Not this one. Very good examples that a person like me (from a non-trading world) can have the opportunity to understand how to trade options and take risks.

I can tell that the author spent a lot of time making sure that he could reach out to whomever picked up his book. I enjoyed it very much. Other friends whom I have also recommended this book to have now become active in options trading and are making some money. A read you will not regret.

I’d highly recommend this book to any beginning or intermediate options trader. Mr. Levy does a great job covering all the steps that he, as a professional trader, focuses on. He discusses what to look for fundamentally, technically and gives his personal rules regarding entries and exits, along with informative websites to check and touches on the often overlooked, mental aspects of trading. Options strategies are explained clearly and give actual trading examples from Mr. Levy’s trading…something I found to be very helpful. I’ve read countless options books and he is the first to break down every aspect of the trading regime from A to Z. The book is clear and easy to understand, unlike most options book that read more like a textbook. Definitely a must read.
