She distills Gann’s tenets into crystal-clear, bite-size explanations, and illuminates them with exceptionally intuitive charts and illustrations. Drawing on extensive personal experience, Reddy explains how Gann’s insights into price, pattern and time can be applied in all types of markets and market conditions.

Introduction:

Over the years, many questions have been asked about W.D. Gann and his trading system. Does it work? How much time do I have to spend before I trade? Can I make money? Where do I begin? I believe the best question of all is, “Which one of Gann’s books can I read that will teach me how to trade?” The answer is, they all will. However, never has a more worthy book exploring Gann’s been written for beginners or intermediate traders as this one.

To be a successful trader, you need to know the rules that have stood the test of time, a bit about the man who created them, and about the author who wrote this book. Hima Reddy has provided us with the “missing link” to W.D. Gann’s trading methods. In this book, she has laid out the basic plans step by step, along with examples, which can be easily followed by anyone with an interest in learning the potential profit areas in trading. Reddy is an extremely talented and determined person. She is well-qualified, with several years working as a professional in the financial world. I first met her at the W.D. Gann Experience Trading Seminar in 2003. I could see that she possessed the knowledge and determination it takes to be a successful market trader.

In the trading world, it seems as if everyone has heard of W.D. Gann, one of the most successful traders and market forecasters of all time. For more than 50 years, the accuracy of his forecasts and his trading successes stunned the commodities and securities world. He became one of the mystic traders of his time, which earned him the title “Guru of Wall Street.” A prolific chartist, analyst, and writer, Gann recorded his methods and systems of trading in books and courses that are today among the most well-known and sought-after books on market trading.

The Trading Methodologies of W.D. Gann: A Guide to Building Your Technical Analysis Tool Box is a solid, beginning stepping stone you can count on. I admire the author for explaining Gann’s principles which were so central to her career. It is interesting to compare Gann’s way of explaining technical analysis and technical trading to the “modern” concepts and terminology used today. Ms. Reddy provides a quick way to learn the basics while also providing a good introduction for those readers who decide to read Gann’s original texts. Unlike many books on trading, this one clearly explains a variety of entry and exit signals for trading which are applicable to any underly instruments in an time frame. I particularly liked the idea of looking at the time duration of a bull or bear flag compared to earlier flags as a way of assessing whether it signals a trend change. It is fascinating to see how the basics of technical trading have really not changed for decades despite the gigantic changes in the size and complexity of markets. I applaud Ms. Reddy’s excellent work.

Decent starting point for people interested in exploring Gann or technical analysis in general. Very basic information; not for intermediate/advanced readers.

I give this book 5 stars for one reason and one reason only… it makes you think differently. I challenge myself to find books that help me question my previous habits and this is one of those books. Yes, it’s not a book that changes your life and trading BUT it could if you followed her advice. I’m not sure I am there yet but she has quite of few “pearls of wisdom” buried in the pages and because she made me question my trading techniques I thank the author. In summary, if you need a jolt of new energy and questioning of your habits, this is a great book.

Hima Reddy takes the ideas of W.D.Gann and simplifies them so they are understandable . This book is chock full of examples of the technical analysis of W.D. Gann and how they are applied. Graphics are excellent here. Add this to your library of quantitative analysis textbooks. The guidebook will be well worth it.

I wish I had had this book about fifteen years ago, when I was buying and holding into the dot-com implosion. Very often, people think that if they’re investing “for the long term” they don’t have to get so involved with the sort of things traders think about. But in the end, whether you’re trading or investing, your ultimate measure of success is very simple: Were you able to sell your security for more than you paid for it? If not, did you get out before or after you lost a bundle?

If you work your way all the way through the book, you’ll have had the chance to study many charts, think about and practice making your own, and get a really good sense of some of the basic tools for technical analysis. But what makes this really valuable is the explanation of what you need to be thinking about when you trade and seeing that the tools aren’t magic, they’re indicators of when you need to start thinking about whether it’s time to get in or get out, a decision you will ultimately have to make on your own.

I do not personally have plans to become a technical analyst or start trading by charts. But the chapters on identifying resistance on the upside and support on the downside made this book worth the read all on their own, as they give you a way to think more objectively about when it’s time to thrown in the towel on a bad pick, when it’s time to get out of a stock that’s done a lot for you and when you can give a stock a little more time to get moving in the right direction again.

If you’re already a technical analyst, of course, this book isn’t for you. But if you’re a small investor whose monthly or quarterly reports suggest that buying and holding isn’t as sure a route to building your portfolio as it once was, this book if full of useful tools for figuring out what’s going on with your investments and being honest with yourself about whether it’s time to change your holdings.

I know next to knowing about trading methodologies so I was looking for a little bit of information from this book. I got a lot more than I anticipated. Gann’s writing style is thorough yet easy to understand from someone who hasn’t touched stuff like this since college.

Gann includes a lot of charts which allow the reader to follow his thought processes and even analyze them for themselves. They’re fairly well distributed throughout the whole book, which gives the reader a chance to apply what they’ve learned by the end of it.

Gann makes it easy by always explaining his rationality. He provides examples on trading assets and gives reasons for the decisions that he made. That sort of teaching style worked really well for me.

This book is a must read for those looking to acquire some basic knowledge of technical analysis. I wasn’t expecting this to be an easy read, but Gann’s writing style is welcoming and easy to follow.

If you are delving into technical analysis beyond what the average trader would do this book is a must read ( study ). Hima Reddy presents Gann’s methods in a way that is easier to understand. Gann’s rules for trading and methodologies are presented in a way that makes sense in todays markets. Expect to spend time studying, not casual reading.

Author, Hima Reddy, has done a commendable job for interpreting and translating W.D. Gann’s (dry) books on technical analysis (TA/chart reading). This book not only serves as a good introduction to Gann’s TA but also ways of applying Gann’s methods to real life trading. Readers are provided with easy to understand and digest tidbits on Gann’s Principles and Rules with clear examples. Be aware that Gann’s Theories are based on ancient mathematics and geometry.

    Overall:
It never hurts to add more knowledge of different trading methodologies to one’s trading repertoire. However, no matter how easy Gann’s methods were explained and demonstrated by the author, it takes real life trading experience to know when to apply his methods at the appropriate time. There is no set formula/TA for predicting the markets, it’s a matter of buying near the market bottoms, and selling near the market tops (conversely, shorting near the tops, covering near the lows). Everything is easier said than done in reality!

Beyond being a concise introduction to Gann, this book is a wonderful primer on trade discipline and money management. The idea of creating and following a precise and purposeful business plan when trading is paramount to success; for this reason alone this book will pay dividends for serious students of techcnial analysis, trading and money management.

Lots of info. Found it very informative. A lot of new data. Old lingo still as good as previously used

Absolutely outstanding! Read this twice and use as a constant reference. Hima Reddy has absolute mastery of this topic and her ability to simply the complex is invaluable!

  12. Kai Hale (verified owner)

Very excellent presentation. Gann’s theory was put into one small capsule so that even many novice traders can understand the Gann’s concept.

W.D.Gann is a grandfather of the successful trading. Very methodical, using, natural laws of cycles as well as astrological computation. Not for people with a little patience. The dedication and perseverance is the key. People might laugh at his method but he had a loaded bank account to prove it. To follow these methods, you need to lock away all the interruptions, mobile phones,
children, pets and similar. Focus Focus Focus.

A very useful and simply written and easy to understand introduction to technical analysis of stocks.

Perfect für the beginner wanting to learn about technical analysis from a grass roots level.

Lots of simple and easy to understand diagrams, well described and not buried in acronyms.

Once you have read this you can start reading Ganns’ actual works and understand the meanings behind the concepts that he writes about as his work assumes you already have a lot of stock market background when in fact many people do not and can get lost in the terminology and unique language of the stock market.

  15. Peyton Greer (verified owner)

I bought this book with full of expectation on Gann’s method explanation. The book discuss something very, very simple and fundamental, which everyone can understand from Gann’s book. There is no need to make an extra book like this one, and at this very high price.

  16. Jeremias Vang (verified owner)

This book is sorely missing the content that ought to accompany such a grand title and is in many passages not even about W.D. Gann’s trading methods, but the author’s own inventions, along with those of her father’s and a Mr Murrey. The author has managed to substantially diminish the work of W.D. Gann, in particular because, W.D. Gann’s own book, ‘How To Make Profits Trading In Commodities’ is still the most poignant work on the subject after 72 years and is still available for a few bucks more than the price of this book. There is much more to be readily learned about W.D. Gann’s trading methodologies and the principles involved from his own books and courses as well as his recommended reading list, no matter how unreachable their language which was meant to be contemplated and probed at least three times, not skipped over as one might do with bed time reading or the Sunday cartoons.

    Decent info here

  18. Moses Powell (verified owner)

nothing new, and a waste of time and money. author brings nothing new to the table of knowledge. One of the worst books on Gann

  19. Alana Castillo (verified owner)

The book is written for those that want to make money in the markets. I am a intraday futures trader and found the trading methodologies very useful. You could make a lifetime of studying Gann, the book lays out the important works. Successful trading in the markets is about understanding the charts and what they are telling us. Where the entry and exit is, that is what matters in trading. This book covers the Gann material and how to apply it.
