Profitable Candlestick Trading was written to educate investors on how to use the Japanese Candlestick technique profitably. The easy-to-follow procedures detailed in this book provide the reader with profit-making techniques that can be learned quickly.
Introduction:
Japanese Candlestick analysis is a highly effective, but under-used investment decision-making technique. Most people in the United States’ investment community are aware of Candlestick analysis, but few understand how or why it actually works. Candlestick charts reveal many insights using wellrecognized Japanese candlestick formations, yet few people understand the ramifications or significance of the signals that are clearly and reliably displayed.
Most readers will be surprised at how the knowledge gained from a close reading of this book dramatically enhances investment abilities across all investment vehicles and over all trading timeframes. More than 400 years of refined reversal-identification and trend continuity projection is now at the reader’s disposal. Mastering the candlestick methodology will be the next major step for maximizing investment returns.
Japanese Candlestick signals possess one major attribute that is not present in other technical systems: The signals are created by the change in investor sentiment. This point is the crux of the success of Candlestick analysis. Again, to emphasize the importance of what you have just read: The signals are created by the change in investor sentiment. Understanding this truism will make it easier to acclimate your investment psychology to this successful trading discipline.
The secrets of the effectiveness of the signals can be learned in a fast and easy process. An investor does not need to be knowledgeable about technical charting to take immediate advantage of the signals. The graphical formation of a signal makes reversals immediately visible. A Candlestick formation provides a visual graphic of investor psychology during a specific time period. For the purpose of illustration in this book, the standard timeframe is one day, and the trading entity is stock—equity as opposed to commodity.
Investment strategies can be structured, of course, for whatever time period is suited for your trading style: minute-to-minute or monthly.
Applicable trading instruments include any vehicle that has the key elements of investor fear and greed.

This book gives a new, more detached vision of the market.

I have read Steve Nison’s books on Candlestick Trading, and they do not come close to the clarity that Stephen Bigalow provides in this book. He explains each of the Major, Secondary and Continuation signals and give clear example as to when and how to use them. I am going to buy his new book entitled ‘High Profit Candlestick Patterns’, because I know it will be worth the investment.

This is an excellant written book, simple step by step explanation of the candlestick methodology. I was impressed with the ease in which I learned the 12 Major candlestick patterns. This book has taken the mistry out of candlestick reading, and it will place a wealth of knowledge in the hands of newbee traders like myself. Excellent book.

I attended Steve’s seminar 2 years ago, and have been using candlestick patterns ever since. This is an excellent book which provides an easy-to-read introduction to candlestick charts. Steve’s approach is a major element of my trading plan.

I am a beginner Commodities/Futures Trader, and am in the process of learning everything I can about all the various trading tools and charting methods. My expectations after having read a lot of books now, is that the book should contain a focused look at the ‘topic’ followed by primary, secondary and tertiary examples of how the methodology of the subject can work effectively AND when it doesnt work well. Stephen Bigalow did an excellent job. The only weakness? The vast amount of analysis provided was for Stock Traders, even though the CandleStick methodology was invented for commodities/futures trading. There is a 3 page section that covered how effective the Candlestick charting method is for commodities trading, but in those 3 pages, he basically says that Candlesticks were invented for Commodities Trading and all the examples that are in the book apply BETTER for commodites as the underlying factors of price in Commodities are not as variant as they are with stocks. Bingo. So why all the analysis based on Stock Trading? I guess he had to play to the larger market of buyers. Anyway, he covers every kind of pattern, and his explanations are clear, succinct, and understandable. I highly recommend this book if you want to understand CandleStick’s.

I’m very pleased with the information contained in the book. However, most of the information contained in the book can be found on the authors website for free. Just google Stephen Bigalow and check it out for yourself, lots of info in the forum at that site as well. I read some other reviews (at another site) that recommended his second book over this one as the basics can be found at his website (and several others) and you can get more into the theory in the other book. With that said I still recommend it and would say its a 5 star rating based on the information. I use it every night while doing my research for the next trading day. Anyway, just something to know. Seems most days you can find just about anything on the net if you look hard enough. May all your days be bullish kickers!

I was doing poorly in the stock market. I read this book and I started to see success. Candlestick signals are a wonderful way to do technical analysis. I wish this book would have crossed my path sooner. Steve makes this book easy to understand and follow. Learn how and when to enter and exit stocks. Also learn how to manage you money for sucess.

This is a great book for beginners and the more experienced alike. An excellent reference manual to have on the bookshelf. It’s the sort of book you dip into for info and not the type you would read from cover to cover. Also, it explains matters in an easy to digest format. With so many books available on the subject, I think this book is a good investment.

Very nice book on trading stocks using candlesticks, good images and teaches basics in a way you can easily understand. Well worth the price for the knowledge you gain. Highly recommended !!!!

I purchased the Candlesticks for Trading book three years ago and have felt it has been an invaluable aid in my stock market trading. It is easy reading and much easier to apply. I liked it so much I made flash cards from the book and review them all the time. I recommend the book highly.

Skimmed through the Profitable Candlestick Trading: Pinpointing Market Opportunities to Maximize Profits , by Steven W Bigalow. Despite the claims that it would help Investors to “Pinpointing Market Opportunities and Maximizing Profits” it is really hard not to think, that the book is nothing but a quick-fix for a ‘trading-coach’ looking to make a quick buck, when his customers have deserted him.
There is no scientific or testable biases in the book, only a bleak summary of ‘conventional’ wisdom. He presents chart after chart, points out profitable trades, but completely leaves out any testable setups. This book will remain on the shelf and will not probably not even serve as a reference guide. I would only rate this as a useful guide for someone that has a low hurdle for wasting money on non-testable charting.

very good very good, book was of good value and the quality is also very good
Finley Quintana (verified owner) –
A comprehensive and simplistic guide to candlesticks, but presents the method as more reliable and consistent than it really is for trading. Interesting, but not ultimately all that useful.
Callan Estes (verified owner) –
if you want to trade candles these is a great book to learn from
Marcellus Baldwin (verified owner) –
I liked the detail explanation along with the charts. It really reinforced memorizing the candlestick signals. I recommend this for those who want to really understand Candlestick signals.
