Description

Getting Started in Futures explains in simple, easy-to-understand terms everything you need to know to start trading futures successfully. You’ll learn how to forecast prices, how hedging works, and how to take advantage of new electronic trading opportunities. The updated Fifth Edition includes discussions on the increasingly important role of futures markets in foreign currencies, equity indexes, interest rates, and proper money management. You’ll also find a complete chapter on single-stock futures — the newest financial futures market.

If you would like to know how futures markets can help you reduce risk or earn greater profits, you have come to the right place. Futures enable you to:

  • Set now the purchase price of a financial instrument that you’ll buy later
  • Protect a foreign currency bank balance from changes in the exchange rate
  • Reduce the market exposure of a single-stock or a large stock portfolio
  • Benefit from a favorable change in interest rates without owning the cash instruments
  • Protect an inventory of an actual commodity against a decline in its cash price
  • Make a bet on the price trend in any traded commodity, from corn to the Canadian dollar

This is the fifth edition of Getting Started in Futures, and a lot of the information is new. But our goals have not changed. Our first goal is help you understand how futures markets work. Our second goal is to show you how you can use these fast-moving marketplaces to your own personal economic advantage.

No one explains complex financial strategies as clearly and intelligently as Todd Lofton. If you’re intrigued by the possibility of making money in the futures markets, Getting Started in Futures is the very best place to start your education.

If you’ve never traded futures but would like to, this book is highly recommended. An excellent introduction to the futures markets and also a useful reference source for the seasoned trader.

  3. Matias Costa (verified owner)

    Excellent book

All those starting trading should invest their money and time in this first.

I am a successful stock trader and have been for over 5 years.I also trade ETF’s.I have been searching for a good futures book to get a good understanding of the rules of the game. This book is poorly organized. It rambles from commodity to order fillings to exchange to nothing. If you are wanting to learn the basics of the exchanges, what is traded on what and the nuances of deliveries and all the questions a beginner has,do not buy this book.I have stopped reading the book after chapter 8.I can not waste anymore of my time. Any book on the subject is better than this one.

This is an excellent book that I recommend to anyone just getting started in learning about futures. The author writes in wonderful detail, and makes it easy for a person to understand the basics of the futures markets. This book is *the* place to start – it’s a must read for beginners.

I am a laid back reader and I prefer to read a book like a novel. Especially when I do nto know anything about a subject.
This is a book for me . I would like to thank the author for his helpful samples with the bottomline (clearly visible) — it really helps .
Great Job. I will watch out for other books coming from Mr. Todd now.

I’ve read many futures trading books and I think this is “the” best book for beginners. The language is easy to understand and the author explained things step by step in a very organized matter. If you ever consider learning about futures, this is the book you have to read. I still use it as reference and it’s one of my favorite books.

No further comments. My reasons are explained in the top line. I have since purchase a book to obtain more details on technical analysis associated with future trading.
