Description

In The Insider Edge, Guy shares his proven secrets so that you, too, can read the markets like a pro and make better trading decisions. Many of the savviest, best informed traders gravitate towards the options market, and this book reveals a revolutionary new trading indicator, the OVI (Options Volatility Indicator), that uses options transaction data to follow what these experts are trading so that you can spot and capitalize on new trends as they emerge.

Author’s Note:

  • (i) More fortunes have been created from the stock market than any other financial instrument. Sure, there are folks who’ve made their fortunes from Forex, commodities, futures, options, and other instruments. But many more fortunes have been made from stocks. Why? Because they’re more accessible and because stocks, like no other instrument, give certain people at certain times an edge that no other instrument can give. And that edge is what I call “privileged” information.

It’s a fact that some folks are going to know what’s going on with certain companies at certain times. Sometimes this information is intuitive because they have proximity to the business—for example, a supplier or customer to the business has no inside information, per se, but has a general feel for how things are going for that corporation. Sometimes the information is more intimate—for example, information held only by the company’s officers and close advisors. Whatever the case, I’m certainly not advocating illegal insider trading, but whether we like it or not it’s always going to happen to some extent. Sometimes it will be legal and sometimes it will be illegal. We’ll focus on the legal side of it, because in our method, we’re going to follow what looks like informed trading. This “informed” trading may be completely innocent, and all we’re going to do is follow it.

You don’t need to be an insider or even have any information per se to make use of privileged information. Besides, even those with supposed inside information often get it wrong because the market may have already factored in certain information beforehand. As such, insider trading doesn’t necessarily translate to profitable trading. Suffice it to say for our purposes, being able to observe transactions in the financial markets is far more important than the specific information on which they may be based.

In this book I’m going to show you how to follow the traders who appear to have privileged information, and how to translate that into profitable trading for you.

  • (ii) There is one type of chart pattern that is responsible for more success than any other pattern or indicator. The pattern is easy to find and, crucially, easy to use in order to create a robust trading plan.

In this book I’m going to focus on the chart pattern (and its close relations) that will massively increase your odds of success

  • (iii) Combining (i) and (ii) together to create a robust and simple trading plan will give you a phenomenal edge in the markets.

In this book I’ll show you how to combine (i) and (ii) to create a safe trading plan that will also give you the ability to trade for windfall profits.

This books covers some strategies for trading on pattern charts (flags, cup and handle, etc) but it does not explain how the author comes to creating the OVI indicator.
If you want to have access to that indicator, you have to buy the super secret web service from the author.
This was one more book that tries to sell the authors web service.
Disappointment all over, but still gave it 2 stars for his info about trading plan management, this is interesting for the beginner.

Prompt delivery, very pleased with item. Excellent service!

One of the best introductory trading books I’ve read whilst also still being invaluable to more experienced trading. Guy Cohen builds on establised proven systems of others e.g. William O’Neils CANSLIM and takes it to the next level with his proprieraty indicator (OVI) that follows trades being placed by the ‘well informed’ in the Options market which combined with proven chart patterns to find high probability trade set ups. Awesome.

    Good info

I rarely write reviews but this was such a waste of time I had to this time. There is zero value in this book, just 250 pages of cherry-picked success stories with an indicator that is not defined and remains a mystery. It would be of some value if it was an indicator you could actually learn, create and put to work in real time situations. If you want to make money trading based on Institutional Options Flow there are plenty of good websites, book is a waste of money and time though it only took 12 minutes to read because it is mainly filled with worthless charts.

I heard about this book on a radio show and was not disappointed. It was simple enough for me to understand and implement, and Mr Cohen certainly seems to have a good thing going with his OVI indicator. I am already having joy with it and I’m only a beginner. His emphasis on sticking to his trading plan is a must.

Definitely worth the read and following up with real application.

  7. Dayana Maldonado (verified owner)

This is worth it, in contrast to his other book, which I recycled at Half-Price Books. Very readable, and understandable, in total contrast to the vast preponderance of other books on options.

  8. Nylah Middleton (verified owner)

Gives a total plan, using the information from their website, for investing in stocks. Easy to read and apply the info.

Actually, this certainly was a waste of time and money. Mr. Cohen’s other books that I have bought have been very good and I consider my best research and reference source. INSIDER EDGE is a great title and that’s where it stops. It appears to me that it’s a great instruction manual for his system, but getting the cart before the horse. Leading an individual into buying his system and paying for the instructions first. How many more surprises? Yes Sir Mr. Cohen I still respect your knowledge and abilities and will continue to follow THE BIBLE OF OPTION STRATEGIES as a how to book. After all this isn’t my first rodeo, I’m 81 years young and looking forward to continue trading options. Just thought this might cut down on my allotted research time. Not buying any green bananas. I’m surprised that you used this method to hood-wink your followers. Giving this one star for creativity.

The book is about OVI, Flag Patterns and some examples that proves how OVI warned the 2008 Crash and Bear Sterns. Good Read and would recommend for Option Traders. I like Guy’s style of writing and enjoyed this book like his other ones on option.

I have to add a comment on the following AAPL, GS recommended in the email from Guy did breakout based on the OVI and a Flag breakout, PCLN was defined as a bearish based on the OVI indicator but rather PCLN price went up.
