Short-Term Trading in the New Stock Market by Toni Turner is an essential guide for every money-minded trader. Bestselling author and trader Toni Turner teaches readers the techniques and strategies needed to trade in today’s up-and-down stock market. The book begins with “Seven Steps to Trading Success,” which outlines the logistics needed to establish a trading career.

Author’s Note:

In our dynamic and exciting world of global finance, each day presents a new market of opportunities. As traders, we strive to stay in lockstep with the future. If trading technology, money-management perspectives, financial products, and the texture of the market itself have evolved and grown, so have I. As I progress on the path of trader, writer, and trading instructor, my continuing objective is to stretch and reach into new dimensions. I’m confident you are on the same path.

I wrote this book to update you on the current financial marketplace, the way it works, and ways you can profit from it. I trust that whether you are a novice in this game, or a more experienced trader, you will learn new information that will enhance your skills and bottom line. As in my previous two books, I’ll talk to you about trading as though we are good friends, chatting over a cup of coffee. And guess what? We’re going to have fun. While I realize that the discussion of trading skills and techniques can be intense and complicated, I firmly subscribe to the belief that enjoyment is an important part of any learning process.

One of my readers wrote to me, “I appreciate your humor. [It seems to me that] it is a necessity when working through tough short-term trading material.” Thank you, kind reader. I agree that humor is a necessity—and should be an ingredient in all parts of our lives. Laughter keeps us sharp, yet relaxed and balanced.

Finally, during the extensive traveling I’ve done over the past few years, I’ve been gratified to meet many of you along the way. To every one of you who has grabbed my sleeve at a financial conference, or attended my classes or presentations, thank you. I’ve enjoyed meeting you. And I’ve learned from your shared perspectives. To those of you I haven’t met as of yet, I look forward to doing so.

Master Trader, Toni Turner has written an important book. Especially useful for novice traders just starting out on their trading journey, Turner’s book covers the basics (and good habits) needed for practical trading decisions. Not strictly a technical analysis book, she writes in a clear conversational style that makes learning that much more attainable.

Sorry, but I can’t recommend her books to any serious trader or student of trading; her books have been criticized for their cotton candy, hurah hurah motivational type writing which, frankly, is irritating after the 5th page, while at the same time, lacking any credible, scientific, and meaningful strategies for making money in the stock market. This one appears to be just a rehash of the earlier ones, written in a more ‘textual’ type format. If you want a decent introduction to trading, try Link’s High Probability Trading or Markham’s Swing Trading. For more critique of Turner, see my review on her Day Trading book. Good luck aspiring traders everywhere.

I just met Toni Turner at the Chicago Traders’ Expo. She’s a fantastic presenter. She’s organized, sincere, and knowledgeable.

I came home and purchased her new book, “Short Term Trading in the New Stock Market.” It’s definitely worth the price–and more.

Toni writes like she talks, with positive high energy. In the sections on technical analysis, she builds from the basics, such as candlestick technology and moving averages, to more complicated subjects, such as Welles Wilders Directional Indicators, with ease and a reader-friendly style. I found her discussion of volume signals to be comprehensive and practical, and they’ve already saved me money as risk-management tools.

I have been trading full-time for three years. The information I’ve learned from this book has had a positive impact that’s already helped increase my profit line.

“Short-Term Trading in the New Stock Market” is a great trading resource. It belongs on every trader’s bookshelf.

“I suspect that readers, if they are like me, will be sorry to see this book end. Turner has been able to put each topic into bite-sized pieces that make them very easy to digest. Both the newer and veteran trader will appreciate the fact that she’s more interested in educating and elucidating than in appearing smarter than everyone else

Toni’s new book is a great source of information for traders. I particularly like the way she explains charting techniques and indicators, such as moving averages, stochastics, MACD, ADX and Fibonacci retracements. In her typical, to-the-point style, she tells you what the indicator is, how it works, its quirks, and how it helps you trade better.

I also learned a lot from her set-ups, actual examples, and her explanations of how each trade progressed. She knows how to explain complicated material in a way that’s instructive and enjoyable to read. I highly recommend “Short-Term Trading in the New Stock Market” to anyone interested in trading.

I have been an active trader for four years and I wish I would have had this book four years ago. This book is full of practical wisdom and insight into what it takes to be a trader in today’s market. Toni Turner is a active trader and has gone through the ups and downs and knows what it takes to be a trader. In her book she lays out step by step the actions you need to take to have a sucessful trading career. Trading is hard work and only the hungry and determined make it. It’s one of the most rewarding careers you could ever dream to have. But it’s hard work and Toni hits at all those points in her book. She also incorporates great “Center Points” at the end of each chapter which are truly insightful. You won’t go wrong adding this book to your collection.

Toni Turner has written an overall informative and fairly comprehensive guide to investing in the stock market. If you have read a lot of other investment books, you won’t find a lot of new material in this book. But, as with most books on trading, there are almost always a couple of little gems hidden in the pages that justify the expense.

This book is certainly a good ‘primer’ for anyone just getting into investing or who wishes to get past just sticking money in their 401K account. It is a good next book past “Investing for Idiots,” and a good prerequisite before tackling a book like John Murphy’s “Technical Analysis of the Financial Markets.”

For those more interested in simple, long-term investing, I would recommend a book like Leslie Masonson’s “All ABout Market Timing.”

I read a lot of trading books and have been trading for quite a while. I am always searching for a better book and new ideas. While this book doesn’t have any revelations, it does do a wonderful job of reviewing the basics in an easily digestive manner. The author even has some review questions at the end of each chapter to see if you have a good understanding of the material. I particularly like the way the author discusses her stock picks and tells you what she is looking at and her decision process. It helped me ask some different (and better) questions concerning my stock selection before I entered a trade. There are some intermediate level discussions of indicators but very little on system trading (which I am currently researching). All in all an enjoyable book.

I just finished reading Toni’s newest book, Short-Term Trading in the New Stock Market. I am happy to report that each chapter has given me helpful advice. I have been trading for five years, and even in the initial chapters, which talk to newer traders, I learned useful points and strategies that I had forgotten, or had not previously known.

Toni teaches trading with a fast-paced writing style and a sense of humor that I appreciate. I particularly liked her chapters on ETFs: their origins, the benefits of trading and hedging with these funds, and where to find them. (She provides a list of the most actively traded.) Her discussion on market internals, meaning futures, TICK, TRIN, put/call ratio and VIX were very helpful to my day trading strategies.

Unlike other trading authors, Toni keeps her ego out of the picture. And, she adds very useful information between chapters on behavioral concept that help keep your trading mindset clear and constructive. All in all, I enjoyed this book very much and have recommended it to my trading friends.

Most of the info on stock trading is full of the same thecnical analysis jargon that makes you lose a lot of times.

Basically most tehcnical trading books tell you the same story but organized in different chapters using different words and charts as examples.

Understanding how to trade a rally is one of the most important aspects of trading, since for us traders it’s all about the rally, either for shorting or going long.

This book covers many aspects of trading including long term and trend as well as short term and day trading of stocks, ETFs, futures and currencies. Much of it is at a beginner’s level and it includes some useful tips that many traders may not know. Overall this book is excessively wordy due to a lot of dramatized content perhaps intended to keep the reader’s interest; but this can be distracting for some readers and it would be useful if it had an appendix with just the facts and tips in outline form.

My title kind of says it all.. it’s a bit rambling, the sequence of ideas is not very logical sometimes, and she is also a bit overly enthused/pumped about day trading etc., which is an extremely risky and challenging business.

OK as a first or second trading book. It’s good to get the basics from more than one source until things start to click.
But if you have already read a couple of trading books, I would pass on this one.

An excellent primer for anybody contemplating day trading. A comprehensive text that deals with many factors used in day trading. Be warned though this is not a light read — it is a textbook that covers much about day trading.

If you are just starting to explore the possibilities of trading, I highly recommend reading this book. It will give a foundation for deciding what and where you need to look next.

I found this to be a really good text for a person contemplating the “trader game”. It is a fairly easy read for someone not all that versed in the fundamentals of trading, but that has an interest in perhaps pursuing the endeavor.

Must traders with some experience would surely find the content slightly rudimentary, I think. But for someone starting out it is just enough – not so elementary to be simple, but not so technical as to be overwhelming. Having read the entire text, I will be re-reading most of it again; this time with a highlighter and notebook.

Toni’s writing style is a little too cutesy at times and the included Center Points at each chapter ending are a little to bromidic, but the core of the text is insightful and educational.

This is a great book!! Highly recommend!! I put the strategy into place and it worked great….just took a long time to implement. However, by reading this, you learn alot about trading in the market, even if you don’t plan on doing short term trading.

As for the content of the book, Toni Turner has to be one of the most entertaining writers on this topic. She has a great sense of humor. More importantly, she distills concepts so that they can be grasped by the most novice of traders. In particular, I did appreciate her breaking it down into steps. It did help tremendously in organizing my thoughts. The template she provided for writing your particular trading plan is a real gift.

Trend trading is not for the meek. Clearly, big mistakes can be devastating to your portfolio. The author repeatedly emphasizes the importance of capital preservation and the tactics one must employ to minimize risk and mitigate the effect of those trades that go against you.

I have bought other books on trend trading, but found her books among the most readable and educational. Definitely worth the time.
