The Options Course is a structured and professional-level framework for understanding and trading options with defined risk and strategic clarity. George A. Fontanills presents options not as speculative gambles, but as flexible financial instruments capable of producing consistent returns when applied within a disciplined, rule-based system.
The book begins by establishing a strong foundation in options mechanics—calls, puts, intrinsic and time value, volatility influence, and risk exposure. Rather than overwhelming the reader with abstract theory, Fontanills focuses on practical application. He explains how option pricing behaves in real market conditions and how traders can structure positions that align with directional bias, volatility expectations, and income objectives.
A defining feature of this course is its emphasis on low-stress trading. Strategies are selected based on risk containment and probability alignment rather than aggressive leverage. Covered strategies, spreads, and risk-defined combinations are presented as tools to control downside exposure while maintaining upside potential. The author repeatedly reinforces the importance of structured trade planning and position sizing as primary drivers of long-term consistency.
The accompanying Workbook transforms the theory into applied mastery. Through step-by-step exercises, calculation drills, scenario analysis, and performance review tasks, traders are guided to internalize both strategic logic and risk management discipline. The workbook ensures the material becomes actionable rather than purely conceptual.
Overall, The Options Course functions as a complete professional training program. It bridges foundational options education with structured strategy execution, providing traders with a repeatable decision-making framework rather than isolated trade ideas.

This book is not an easy read; but, the information content is high and it is well presented. There are numerous examples that make the information clear. If you are looking for a book that will provide detailed, in depth, well organized, information on options trading this is a very good book.

Very in depth publication on Options Trading. Could be a bit better set out as one tends to get bogged down in the detail and has the effect of one losing interest.
Surely options trading is not as difficult as this book tends to make it.

I found this book very clear and complete. I’m really happy that I bought it

If you want to learn the basics of options & option strategies go for this one. This book does a great job at explaining what options are and how they work. Fontanills did a nice job in writing this work to help the reader become more familiar with options.
The strategies were very nicely explained, with the calculations for maximum profit/loss and the graphs illustrating these strategies.
The book does have some shortfalls though:
– The overview of the option strategies could have been better structured
– He spents a lot of pages on fundamental analysis, technical analysis, what broker to pick, … I just wanted to read text on options ..
– The chapter on delta neutral trading strategies is not that clear. I found his chapter even a bit confusing.
– Almost no information on long butterflies/condors, although this is one of the most popular option trading strategies
– Instead of writing chapters on the stock market, brokers, margin, .. I’d rather seen a chapter on volatility or the VIX index.
All in all: buy this book if you want to get started in options or want to read a refreshers course on options. This is one of the most reader friendly books on this (complex) subject.

This is a very big manual with lots of detail which requires memorization and much rereading. I am working my way through it and expect to be a much better options trader in the months to come as I learn the material well enough tpo apply it to my craft. This is not a “get rich quick” book.

Good book. The author is a good writer and an excellent teacher. Filled with worthy wisdom. I am still reading the book. I found the author very knowledgeable and so I am getting ready to buy a few other books by this author.

Recommended by a course that I’m taking on options; very detailed.

He may have gone to Harvard, but he never worked on Wall-Street. He was a failure in real estate and then made money presenting seminars on how to get rich with options. Understanding Options by Michael Sincere is better. Options Trading Quickstart Guide is also better. You can also just look up options on youtube and find plenty of free tutorials. This book was a waste of money.
