Description

In High Probability ETF Trading most of the strategies you’ll learn have been correct in the 70%-80% range for many years, writh the TPS strategy  being correct almost 90% of the time on the broad universe of ETFs we tested.

Introduction:

What was once considered an alternative to mutual funds has in reality become the go-to products for hedge funds and professional traders. You only have to look at the intra-day volatility along with the rapidly increasing volume to know that “investors” are not the main force behind the growth of the ETF industry. The traders are.

There are very few ETF strategy books available today (as of early 2009). The few that are out there focuas on things like expense ratios and the management behind the ETFs. Maybe these are important things for investors but this in.formation is of little use in making day-to-day trading decisions for ETFs. What we hope to do here in this strategy book is to provide you with seven high probability ETF strategies you need to know.

Each strategy comes with exact rules and is backed by years of statistical test results. There will be no opinions or guessing coming from this book. There’s an exactness to the strategies and you’ll be able to take them and apply them immediately to yotu trading.

Everyone knows that in real estate the key to success is “location, location, location!” In our opinion in trading, and especially ETF trading, its “quantify, quantify, quantify!” What is High Probability Trading? It’s trading using strategies which have histolically been successful a high percentage of the time. With ETF trading, we like strategies that have been correct on average at least 65% of the time (obviously the higher the percentage correct, the better) with good average gains per trade (which means all trades combined-both winning and losing).

A little advanced for me. I find that details of the method are not completely explained. For example the values for the chart curves do not agree with the ranges shown on the right margin of the chart on which hey are plotted. Also the abbreviations used through out are not explained well. They give a phone number to call but I think that should be unecesary. A book should be complete on it’s own.

I’ve been in the financial markets for a long time, both as a trader and on the brokerage side. So I’ve had a bird’s eye view of what people do to shoot themselves in the foot. This book provides a solid foundation on the wrong, but commonly held assumptions that people have about the market. Most importantly, it provides real strategies such as the 3-day high/low Method, %b Strategy and my favorite…the RSI 75 Method that are well researched and tested.

Unlike many traders, I have found that Larry’s systems hold up over the course of years because the simplicity of his rules help him to steer clear of curve fitting and over optimization. Complicated systems blow up because they are overweighted with rules that attempt to make historical results look good. They look good on paper, sound impressive in a Las Vegas conferences, and make some people some smart — but in reality the markets tend to squash those who try to over-engineer it.

Read this book, and you’ll be tempted to ask, “Is it really that simple.” But then test the strategy and that may very well open your eyes.

The years of research into this book is fascinating. Some of the most simple rules such as buying above a 200 day moving average is so simple yet unknown. Applying this simple strategy avoids draw downs in ugly bear markets. The fact they offer a phone number to explain strategies is unique and worth the price of the material and then some. The authors back up their points by scientific proof of the reliability of the strategy. As I am a professional trader since 1994 many of the strategies I have learned over the years such as buying at levels of the RSI at 25 & 75. This book surmises many of the issues I have learned over the years and presents them in a concise and proven format.

Given my level of trading experience this book was full of good information.

I would have found it more helpful if there had more discussion of the pros and cons of each approach described rather than just laying them out one after another.

Also, the authors note that these systems don’t work well with loss limiting stops. Again, some discussion of how different traders with different personalities deal with that fact would have been appreciated.

Easy to read , concise explanation of their analysis to add to your trading knowledge. Well worth the time to read.

  6. Jace Rodriguez (verified owner)

I got some good ideas from the book but can’t apply much of it.

  7. Truett Thomas (verified owner)

Very professional work based on statistical analysis and objervations

  8. Quinton Luna (verified owner)

    I like it.

I was a kind of reluctant to buy it because of some comments. But I finished over one day, took notes, coded the strategies, made my own backtesting and then I loved it. Maybe it could show largest losing trade, max drawdown and max consecutive losses because that is very important to know. But you can do your own backtest and you will get the same winning ratio. I think everyone should do it because is not wise to put money on an ETF just because you read somewhere that it should works. You will get more conviction if you see it for yourself.
So after coding I saw that $EZU was a good short and today is Friday and I’m taking profits and letting a portion on free ride, if it was a loosing trade I wouldn’t care since it was a high probability trade (80.49%). Also found that $JO (coffee) was a good long, plus the seasonality chart of coffee it was heavily supporting that long, so I executed and I’m on profits and holding.
Thanks very much to Connors Research for sharing this strategies, I will try to combine them and create new stuff. I would fully recommend this book.

  10. Bodie Holmes (verified owner)

The information the book presented seems accurate. The tests I’ve run have worked out when I followed the stated rules. It’s pretty short and the usable material only takes up about 60% of the pages.

These strategies will work fine – if you have a gigantic account to trade. If not, and if you are paying any commissions at all, these strategies will lose money.

  12. Ivory Long (verified owner)

The only reason the setups in this book would not have worked for anyone who read it is their lack of trading experience. These setups work!! Period! And no, you don’t have to have a large account. You do have to keep an eye on your account and choose the right ETFs. What amazes me after 20 years of trading is how more people have not discovered this information and used it. All the setups do is make money. It’s the same thing with the VXX/XIV strategy. That strategy is almost never wrong and is in fact, one of if not the most consistment money making setup I’ve ever come across. You can’t help but make money with that setup. Larry’s stuff is more advanced than most trading books, but there are some really good setups that can work great for retirement accounts and swing trading. Get help in understanding them if you don’t know already.

Very informative book. What I like best is that it clearly spells out actionable trades that have historical track record.

Simply a promotion to buy other material… the most general information; he should pay the reader!

A few strategies out of several that are very, very good to implement in live trading ! Just profitable ! ! !

  16. Vincenzo Jordan (verified owner)

I have been working to find a method of trading I can use and rely on while holding down a full time job. The strategies here are simple and very doable for me at work. Thanks and I look forward to making some money!

  17. Blaire Callahan (verified owner)

This provides a very simple method for trading on popular ETFs in a mechanical way. Each strategy presents back-testing so you have the statistics of the approach on several ETFS. Haven’t tested all the strategies but seems like a good approach if you only want to trade several high probability patterns. Recommendation try small then increment as you confirm the success on these approach

  18. Brooklyn Long (verified owner)

Fantastic concepts… I have already started using these strategies and they work very well. I have by far recovered the cost of this book…

  19. Bailey Grimes (verified owner)

Recommendations have been back tested. I have a charting program that will send me alerts. I can script the charting program to recommendations. I am forwarded testing the recommendations by paper trading them. So far so good. Easy to understand. This book is similar to other books the author has written so get almost the same review. But this book focuses on ETFs.

  20. Journey Nielsen (verified owner)

This is a time-tested book. Worth the money. Very easy read and you can put the strategies to use immediately. The methods recommended are backed by thousands of hours of back-testing. Pure and simple – it works. No fluff. No B.S. Just know the book is written from a standpoint that you already know how to enter an order, set stops and trade.
