About the Author

Dan Krier is professor of sociology at Iowa State University who teaches graduate and undergraduate courses in social theory, social problems, and general sociology. He was the 2015 recipient of the Shakeshaft Master Teacher Award, the 2015 Excellence in Introductory Teaching Award and the 2006 Early-Career Teaching Award from the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences.

Krier writes in the fields of political economy, critical social theory and comparative-historical sociology. Research articles and essays have been published in Current Perspectives in Social Theory, Critical Sociology, American Journal of Economics and Sociology, the American Sociologist, Journal of Rural Social Sciences, The Sociological Quarterly, and Fast Capitalism. Krier organizes a series of interdisciplinary meetings at Iowa State University, the Symposia for New Directions in Critical Social Theory, and co-organized the 2016 meetings of the International Social Theory Consortium.
