Valuable information from a person that has been a tremendous success as a trader. My only regret is that I didn’t get this book sooner!

This is one of the best books about stock trading. It is directed more toward the intermediate to advanced trader, but it has quite a few pearls for the beginner as well. Trader Vic lays out stock trading in two ways. First, he gives the reader a lesson in economics as it pertains to the stock market. He concentrates on the specific economic factors that cause trends in the market including monetary and government policy, news, world events, and history. Second, he gives the reader a “trading floor” view of the actual sausage making process that is stock market speculation. This includes details about different types of traders, institutions, advisers, brokers, options traders, fund managers, and every day speculators. His focus is on the speculative trader and the intermediate trading time frame. He lays out basic principles for speculation and shares his trading techniques including risk management, technical analysis, trend identification, options, and an entire section on psychology that blew my mind. This book is a must read for the beginner on up to the seasoned trader.

Victor provides what you need to know to trade in the markets. I especially liked his chapters on money management, the economy and the psychological mindset required to be successful. If you trade you need to read it.

    MUST READ!

The book is basically for speculators and investors. Vic goes through some general market information, talks about a business philosophy for consistency, then moves into Dow theory. He covers in detail his technique for understanding trend. The good and bad of technical analysis. Finding trend changes. Then he goes into a very interesting section discussing his view on economics. The book finished up with about 100 pages on emotional discipline and understanding and modifying your internal situation.

This is a great book. Vic covers his trading approach in enough detail that I can follow it. He also covers the risk management, which is key to any successful trader/speculator/investor. His section on the mental aspect, which is hugely important, touches on Tony Robbins and others. Its an important topic and you are going to have a bad time in the markets if you don’t get your mind right.

I am upset about one thing, I purchased this book on July 12th, 2015. I was working my way through some other books and this one got lent out for someone else to read while I finished the other books. Well one thing leads to another and I just got the book back. Yes, 15 years later. Too bad, would have liked to read this more than a decade ago. On a positive note, I now mark on my calendar, with alerts, whenever I lend out a book. Think I might also institute a sever late fee daily charge too.

This is a great book and I think it should be read by anyone that trades or speculates.

Vic’s classic pattern is as relevant today and when he first wrote about it.

  7. Eliel Wise (verified owner)

Frankly, his instructions and method on trend lines is worth the priced of the book. Knowing his method and following them will put you in a great position to profit from major market swings… if you will follow and trust it.

Part one is on technical analysis. Quite basic concepts, and in general, not all investors buy into that approach.

Part two is on psychology tuning. This is a must for all professionals — not only for the sake of better returns but also for better life quality. Vic does have a lot to offer in this regard.

Readers may select the content that appeals to them and skip the rest (e.g., some may skip the “voodoo” chart-reading techniques in earlier chapters).

I got a tremendous amount of value out of this book. The book is still very relevant and informative. The second part of the book is more focused on the psychology aspect of trading and in life. The authors perspectives are unique, thoughtful and succinct. Excellence book that I’m sure I will be re-reading parts of it for years.

Must read for all investors, beginners to advance. Unfortunately the author should stay away from psychology since his info. is dated not relevant and uninformative. He should stay within his sphere of expertise which is investments…stocks.
